Pastor’s Memo: Not long ago I was buying a Diet-Pepsi at the gas station. With the pandemic, there were strict instructions on where one should stand while waiting for one's turn to approach the cashier. The floor of this establishment has arrows and "Xs" on the floor for the efficient and safe movement of human traffic. Present was an older woman who looked confused. Let's just say, she didn't know where to stand nor did she know what place in line she was. I was behind her with my re-fill. She says out loud: "Who's next? I don't know who's next." Being the smart alack that I am, from behind her I pipe up and say: "You must be; after all you're a treasure." She looks at me with a quizzical expression on her face. I continue: "You're standing on the 'X' and 'X' marks the spot. You must be the hidden treasure. You're next." She sort of smiles an almost smile and pays for her bottled fruit drink. She heads for the door as I pay for my re-fill. She stops at the door and waits. She's not wearing a mask, but I am. She begins to tell me she's not had a good day. She can't get in to see her mother in the nursing home in Goshen, she's had her hours cut back at work, and she's still waiting for her (expletive deleted) check from Donald Trump. A few more distasteful descriptives directed at The Donald flow almost without effort from her lips and I bite my tongue. I don't know who she is; but I know who I am. I'm Calvary's pastor under the immediate supervision of Bishop Trimble's conference superintendent. I listen and I nod and I smile, after a fashion, as she continues her diatribe about the President, her job, and the rest of her life. She steps out to the parking lot. The last thing I said to her was "You must be the hidden treasure. You're next." As she starts to get in her car, she turns, looks at me, and says with a sigh that was hardly a whisper: "Nobody ever told me I was a treasure before." That's when I knew biting my tongue through the length and breadth of her revilement of Trump and her lament concerning her mother and the economic hardship she was continuing to endure was God's doing. Keeping me silent while she vented became a blessing for me, perhaps for both of us. The proof of it were the tears in her eyes as she climbed into her car and drove south on Indiana State Road 13.

Keep Our Family Connected
Not everyone in our congregation has an e-mail account. Please help to keep those persons informed of changes in our schedule as listed in the e-navigator. If you are in need of a phone number, please call the church office.
“Ask the Pastor”
Our Calvary E-Navigator is now coming to you three times a week; Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. This arrangement is for this season of pandemic isolation. Our E-Navigators will be a forum for up-dates and prayer chains and other congregation news. It will be a way to stay connected in a more worshipful way. Monday's edition will include an "Ask the Pastor" segment. Readers will be invited to ask me questions on any appropriate subject. My response will be the Pastor's Memo for Monday. I will not promise to answer every question as there may not be enough room. You will be able to post your question by calling the Pastor or the church office or by replying to this e-mail.
Questions received by Friday will be considered for the following Monday’s segment.
Without worship on Sundays, we are counting on everyone to let us know about your prayers requests. Please contact the church office (574-457-3778) with any information or updates. Our goal is to continue to supply everyone with the information needed to stay in touch during this pandemic. If you know of someone who would like to be added to either the e-navigator list or the e-mailed Prayer Chain list, please let the church office know. Thank You!
Church Finance Reports
Church Finance Reports continue to be completed at the end of each month. If you are interested in a copy of any month’s report, they are always available in the church office to any member.
Stair Lift Donation
Someone has contacted the church with the offer of an Acorn 120 stair lift to someone who could use it. Please contact the church office (574-457-3778) if you or someone you know has a need. They have un-installed it and would bring it to the church.
The May/June issue of the Upper Room is available in the church office. If you would like to pick up a copy, just call ahead and I will be happy to bring one out to your car. As always, donations of $1 are always accepted for Upper Rooms.
The problem has been resolved and the heat has been restored to the classrooms upstairs. The final invoice came in under the estimate of $5,828.75. The actual cost of the restoration was $5,453.75. Our funding campaign has brought in $2,445 toward that expense. Please continue to give toward the restoration while maintaining your current pledge level. Mark your envelope for this special cause as "Repair Heat" and it will be earmarked for the cost of the repair. Thank You!
We are updating the prayer chain lists and all are welcomed to be included. You can be a part of the Phone Prayer Chain (day or night) or you can be included in the e-mailed prayer chain list that arrives on Mondays. We are also beginning e-mailed updates for concerns throughout the week. Please contact the church office to be added to the list.
